Hawaii Lions Eye Bank and Makana Foundation
The Hawaii Lions Eye Bank and Makana Foundation is a collaboration of two non-profit organizations which
had some common basic goals such as to serve the community and the people of Hawaii. In order to preserve the spirit of both organizations both the missions have been maintained. The eye bank works for sight restoration through the following steps:
- By providing the community with quality ocular tissue for transplantation.
- By offering non-surgical ocular tissue to bona fide research institutions so that blindness can be prevented.
- By maintaining the principles of Lionism.
- By maintaining and establishing a donor registry in Hawaii.
- By promoting the donation process, and also explaining how one can become a donor, and what the donated eyes, tissues, or organs can be used for so that the people of Hawaii can take an informed decision while donating.
